Interview with the Pilates Instructor Kate Davies
We hopped over to NYC last summer, when the world looked a bit different from now, to ask Kate Davies about Hot Pilates.
Kate Davies is inspiring the world to practice more Hot Pilates through her own studio, YO BK, which have two locations in Brooklyn. Kate is passionate about teaching, developing her community and living her biggest life possible! When she is not at the studios, she loves to read and spend time with her sweet pup, Ruby. Below Kate shares some thoughts on Hot Pilates, Yoga and more.
My life motto is that, no matter how far you travel, you can never get away from yourself. – Haruki Murakami
Right now I am extra curious about Aerial Yoga, which we will be adding at the studios soon!
A beautiful body to me is one that moves with grace and feels like home.
My favorite movement is our Hot Pilates cardio move, wide legged half burpees. They are high-intensity, low impact. I like them because I’m good at them.
The perfect outfit for Hot Pilates is anything that moves with the body and doesn’t have to be readjusted during class.
The difference between Bikram Yoga and Hot Pilates is that Bikram Yoga moves at a slower pace and is disciplined, strength-based and deeply self-reflective. Hot Pilates, by contrast, is fast-paced, fun and varied. Our rooms have disco balls, club lighting and energetic music. You get a kick ass workout and feel like you had a night out on the town — even at 6 am!
Hot Pilates is a great workout because it is challenging, fun and safe. Our students get addicted to how good they feel after class and by how quickly their bodies change. Our classes sell out and we are constantly adding more Hot Pilates classes to our schedule.
When joining my studio one can expect to have fun, be challenged and be held accountable for how you interact with others.
Power to me is the awareness to know when to speed up and when to slow down.
