Interview with the Pilates Instructor Lili Viola

We got the chance to do a feature with the lovely Lili Viola who inspires women to move.

Lili is a wife, mother, studio owner and classical Pilates teacher in Toronto, Canada. She has three children ages 19, 16 and 13, and a 7 year old dog who’s like the baby of the family. Read the full interview where Lili shares her view on Pilates and much more.

My life motto is to don’t let fear get in the way of you pursuing your dreams. A second motto would be: “If I’m in, I’m all in!”

Right now I’m curious about the natural Circadian rhythm of the body and how it, respecting it, can help heal the body. Intermittent fasting and autophagy is a big part of this.

A beautiful body according to me is a body that obeys what the mind tells it to do, regardless of the difficulty of the task at hand. There is nothing more impressive to me than a body that will bend to the will of the mind.

Pilates to me is a well designed system of movement that restores complete balance, that relaxes the mind and body and enables one to move through life with ease.

The perfect Pilates outfit is one that does not ride up or down on the body while one is moving. An outfit that makes the wearer feel unencumbered and confident. An outfit that showcases the lines of the body and allows its skin to breathe.

In Pilates it is hard to find a favorite Pilates move. I love them all, but lately I am intent on correcting the imbalances that get in the way of me doing some of the more advanced work. Star on the Reformer or Wunda are my work in progress moves.

In my opinion Pilates is good because it targets all of the body’s needs: strength, flexibility, balance, cardiovascular endurance, joint stability, mindfulness, it has it all. And on top of that, it can improve all other activities/workouts/sports.

When practicing at my studio one can expect a studio with 3 floors and 3000 square feet space and the complete line of apparatus. You can expect to get a very thorough workout in which no body part will be left unattended. We also have a wonderful team of talented and dedicated teachers who are passionate about Pilates and will provide you with a wonderful and body transforming experience.

Power to me is knowing the source and tapping into that. Physical power is not leaking energy and preserving it to move efficiently and effortlessly. In life, power is knowing your why, your source of happiness and not allowing outside distractions pull you away from that source.
